Charles Romaniuk began this book on a walk through Père Lachaise, among the tombs and the carved names, when he realized that behind every name was a life and a story — and that he knew almost none of them. The book became a way of finding them.
Passages of Père Lachaise: First Promenade follows fourteen documented passages from lives gathered in the cemetery, finding them instead in the rooms, streets, courtrooms, kitchens, hospitals, workshops, and other places where their lives were in motion.
